“A Vida e os Milagres de São Nicodemo de Tismana”, de Liviu Barbulescu, é um documentário disfarçado de animação humorística. O filme de Barbulescu combina tragicamente o estilo visual colorido da pintura naïf da antiga igreja romena com animação de recortes para lançar luz sobre a história esquecida do envolvimento da Igreja Ortodoxa na escravização dos ciganos* na Roménia. O filme apresenta-se inicialmente como uma comédia sobre os milagres invulgares de S. Nicodemo, um monge do século XIV, incluindo a transformação de um bife de porco em peixe, a travessia do Danúbio no seu cajado e a maldição de uma aldeia, para depois revelar gradualmente ao público o verdadeiro legado de S. Nicodemo de Tismana.
“The Life and Miracles of Saint Nicodemus of Tismana” by Liviu Barbulescu is a documentary disguised as a humorous animation. Barbulescu's film tragicomically combines the colorful visual style of old Romanian naïve church painting with cut-out animation to shed light on the forgotten history of the Orthodox Church's involvement in the enslavement of the Roma* in Romania. The film initially poses as a comedy about the unusual miracles of St. Nicodemus, a 14th century monk, including turning a pork steak into fish, floating across the Danube on his staff and cursing a village, only to gradually reveal to the audience the true legacy of St. Nicodemus of Tismana.

Tommy’s grill is a meeting place for the Romani community. Here a tightly-knit but motley crew of people gather to eat and talk. When a lone man visits the restaurant one evening, rumors begin to spread and Tommy is forced to revist traumatic memories.

Rukeli Trollmann was exposed to many forms of discrimination by the Nazi regime because of “boxing by dancing like Gypsy”. Inspired by the fight of Rukeli Trollmann, the film traces the artist’s experience of immigration to Berlin and the fight for justice in Istanbul.
